Female Genital Mutilation in the 21st Century: Medical, Legal, and Ethical Perspectives
The practice of female genital mutilation remains a taboo inthe 21st century. A heavy silence surrounds these practices, to the extent that those affected do not dare to speak out. Yet field studies demonstrate that these practices continue to persist, even on European soil. The conference, organized by the Montpellier Team for Criminal Law and Forensic Sciences (EDPFM), aims to bring together diverse perspectives on female genital mutilation, exploring two dimensions of analysis: theoretical and empirical considerations, as well as domestic and international perspectives. On a subject rarely addressed as such, the conference will provide an opportunity to assess the current situation and outline medical, legal, and ethical perspectives through insightful presentations by academics and professionals.

Target audience: The conference is of interest to faculty members, researchers, students, and doctoral candidates in law, political science, medicine, sociology, and ethnology, as well as, more generally, anyone interested in the issue of female genital mutilation.
