Female genital mutilation in the 21st century: medical, legal, and ethical considerations
Female genital mutilation remains a taboo subject inthe 21st century. There is a heavy silence surrounding these practices, to the extent that those affected do not dare to speak out. However, field studies show that these practices continue to exist, including in Europe. The conference, organized by the Montpellier Criminal Law and Forensic Science Team (EDPFM), aims to bring together different perspectives on female genital mutilation, with a dual focus on theoretical and empirical considerations as well as internal and international reflections. On a subject that is rarely addressed as such, the conference will provide an opportunity to take stock of the situation and outline medical, legal, and ethical perspectives, through rich contributions from academics and professionals.

Target audience: The conference is of interest to teachers, researchers, students, and doctoral candidates in law and political science, medicine, sociology, ethnology, and, more generally, anyone who questions the practice of female genital mutilation.
