Bachelor's degree in political science

ISO 9001 certified since 2016 (attesting to the pedagogical and administrative quality of the program), the Bachelor's degree in Political Science offers a specific curriculum in political science from L1 to L3.
Focused on understanding the contemporary world, it offers the opportunity to acquire :

  • the body of knowledge needed to analyze politics in the broad sense of "governing societies" (general courses in L1, consolidated in L2, specialized in L3);
  • forge a solid general culture;
  • strengthen writing and speaking skills;
  • training in a wide range of methodological tools that can be used in the various professional sectors to which this training gives access (drafting of all forms of written document, production of all forms of oral intervention, design and implementation of surveys or qualitative and quantitative studies, documentary research, mastery of information and communication techniques, etc.);
  • prepare for further study or professional integration, thanks to six academic and professional support modules from L1 to L3.

bi-Licence in economics and political science

Resolutely multi-disciplinary, the "science éco - science po" bachelor's degree is designed to meet the demands of new, promising professions, particularly in the fields of the environment, energy, decision support, development projects, transnational governance and the regulation of complex societies. The aim is to train managers with skills in economics, political science and, more generally, the social sciences and national and international institutions, to take up positions of responsibility in the public and private sectors, both in France and abroad.
In practical terms, students follow the basic courses of the two bachelor's degrees in economics (Richter site) and political science (Faculty of Law and Political Science site), the University of Montpellier being the only one to date to offer this type of curriculum. To validate the course, students must pass a bi-disciplinary oral exam attesting to the contributions of both disciplines to the analysis of the contemporary world situation. The dual skills sought should subsequently enable students to enter the best masters degrees in each discipline, or co-habilitated multi-disciplinary masters in Political Science and Economics, to prepare them for the professions of the future.

The Doctoral School of Law and Political Science (DS 461) at the University of Montpellier welcomes doctoral students in law and political science from the 9 research units within the school.

Since July 2017, it has been part of the Collège doctoral de l'Université de Montpellier, to which other establishments are associated (Montpellier Supagro, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier, IMT Mines Alès, AgroParisTech). The added value of the Collège doctoral is particularly appreciable in all aspects of doctoral student/company relations, as well as in the extensive catalog of training courses offered to doctoral students.

DS 461 groups together 155 teacher-researchers, including 111 HDRs (qualified to direct research) registered in one or other of the laboratories attached to it:

  • Corporate Law Center
  • Montpellier Center for Research and Administrative Studies (CREAM)
  • Center for Comparative Constitutional and Political Studies and Research (CERCOP)
  • Montpellier School of Social Law
  • Institute for European Human Rights Law (IDEDH)
  • Institute of Legal History (IHD)
  • The Private Law Laboratory
  • UMR 5112 Center for Latin European Political Studies (CEPEL)
  • UMR 5815 Dynamiques du droit

The 300 doctoral students enrolled inDS 461 can prepare 4 different doctorates:

  • Private law and criminal sciences
  • Public law
  • History of law and institutions
  • Political Science

Every year, an average of 40 thesis defenses and 3 HDR defenses are organized.

In accordance with articles 2 and 3 of the decree of May 25, 2016 setting the national framework for training and the procedures leading to the award of the national doctoral diploma, the role of the Doctoral School is to organize the training of doctoral students, prepare them for their professional activity and provide them with a broader scientific culture.

To this end, the Doctoral School selects doctoral candidates on the basis of explicit, public criteria, and organizes the allocation of funding, in particular doctoral contracts. With the support of each affiliated research unit, it ensures that doctoral students prepare and defend their thesis in the best possible conditions, in particular by organizing additional doctoral training to promote post-doctoral professional integration, implementing the thesis charter and setting up thesis monitoring committees.
