Queen Margot
This event has passed!
True to Dumas's novel of the same name, Patrice Chéreau's film is set during the period of the Wars of Religion that tore France apart between Catholics and Protestants.
To ease tensions, Queen Catherine de Medici negotiates the marriage of her daughter Marguerite de Valois (Isabelle Adjani), whom Dumas nicknames Margot, to the Protestant Henri de Navarre, the future Henri IV (Daniel Auteuil).
The union is celebrated, but a few days later, a failed assassination attempt on Admiral de Coligny, leader of the Protestants, leads to the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre on the night of August 24, 1572.
